Hello, I feel we should have a thread to introduce ourselves, as well as an excuse to make a post and try the system out

I myself am a full time Rust programmer working on SMTP servers and a message queue server, all written in Rust. I have always dreamed of having a old style forum system like phpBB but written in Rust and using modern tools/systems, so I am exceptionally excited about this project.
My hope and personal vision for the project is that we can keep things simple and try not rely on too many different systems to operate lemmyBB, just a database (Postgres) and the LemmyBB binary. That keeps deployment and management to a minimum. For example we could use FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED to implement the queue in the database we are already using, and get our queue for no extra work, that behaves in a well tested and expected way, rather than pulling in something similar to Sidekiq. One of my biggest gripes with Discourse is that it too many moving parts and felt inefficient.

Hello, I'm a Pythonista and study Data Science. 2023 is the year I go back and get my Master's in the field. I'm an avid reader and belong to the Sword & Laser book club. I'm over at @jkb@mastodon.social as having left social media after the 2016 election, that was causation not correlation. As I surfed the web for the last 30 years I've come across the Fediverse and now I'm spending time studying it and participating as it is the now and future.

Hello, I am old, confused and a bit lost. Wandered in here and just felt a bit nostalgic for the time of bulletin boards, when I believed that when information becomes widely available everything will just get better
I first saw the Internet in 1980, without any understanding of what it was I was looking at. Several decades later, after a database admin job (Unix, ingress) and some early dabbing in html and javascript, after using it daily and getting frustrated with it, I still don’t really grasp it.
You people give me hope. Thank you! Who knows, I might learn rust yet. Had some C++ once…

Hi! I'm a nobody who likes fedi software and was looking for a forum platform and most modern forum platforms I can't stand so I'm very interested in the idea of a federated phpbb revival that isn't as decrepit as real phpbb but keeps the flow of it

Hello. I'm also a programmer, doing embedded work in assembly, C and a little C++, though I'm personally very fond of functional programming.
I'm new to the Fediverse and trying out a bunch of its platforms to see what I like.

S'up, my name's Anna and I use he/him. I like zombie shows/games etc. I also like old school things like message boards and am more into those than social media.
I don't do anything cool like programming but I want to work at a library or move boxes by hand.
I like tv shows like Shameless, I am not ok with this, and I've watched some eps of Yellowstone and that seems cool.
DTT but I don't like to be social that much. I left social media after 6 yrs bcuz I felt like I had to be social and it didn't feel as private as I'd like it to be.
